If there is one Tanzania itinerary that captures everything this extraordinary country has to offer, it is the combination of a wildlife safari with a Zanzibar beach extension. Game drives in the Serengeti in the morning; coconut palms and turquoise water by the end of the week. Our Tanzania safari and Zanzibar packages are our most popular product — and for good reason.

Why Combine a Safari with Zanzibar?

Tanzania’s northern safari circuit and Zanzibar island are connected by short domestic flights, making them effortless to combine. You experience the dramatic contrast of the African bush — dust, wildlife, acacia trees, wide open skies — followed by the complete calm of a coral island. It is this contrast that makes the combination so compelling for travelers.

Zanzibar also adds excellent value. Beach resorts range from budget guesthouses to ultra-luxury private villas, and the island offers far more than sunbathing — Stone Town’s UNESCO World Heritage architecture, spice tours, dolphin snorkeling, and world-class diving all add depth to the beach portion of the trip.

How Many Days Do You Need?

7 days: 3 nights safari + 3 nights Zanzibar — good for a tight schedule

10 days: 5 nights safari + 4 nights Zanzibar — the most popular combination

14 days: 7 nights safari + 6 nights Zanzibar — the complete experience

18+ days: Add Kilimanjaro before the safari for the ultimate Tanzania adventure

Sample Safari and Zanzibar Itinerary (10 Days)

Days 1–2: Arrive at Kilimanjaro airport. Transfer to Arusha. Overnight rest.

Days 3–4: Tarangire National Park — elephant herds, baobab landscapes.

Days 5–6: Serengeti National Park — Big Five, migration herds, sundowners.

Day 7: Ngorongoro Crater — full-day game drive inside the world’s largest caldera.

Days 8–10: Fly to Zanzibar. Beach, Stone Town, spice tour, snorkeling. Depart.

What Safari Parks to Include?

For the safari portion of your trip we typically recommend the northern Tanzania safari circuit — Tarangire, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro — as these parks are the most accessible from Kilimanjaro airport and offer the most diverse wildlife. For travelers with more time, adding southern Tanzania parks like Nyerere and Ruaha before Zanzibar creates an exceptional full-country itinerary.

Zanzibar Holiday Options

Our Zanzibar holiday packages cover the full range from 2 to 7 nights and can include Stone Town accommodation, beach resorts on the east or north coast, dolphin tours at Kizimkazi, the Jozani Forest red colobus monkeys, and Zanzibar spice farm visits.

Honeymoon Safari and Zanzibar

Tanzania is one of Africa’s top honeymoon destinations. Our Tanzania honeymoon safari packages combine romantic tented camps in the Serengeti with private beach accommodations in Zanzibar. Special honeymoon touches — private dinners, room decorations, sunset cruises — can be arranged throughout.
